GRANDFATHER'S TOOLS

My Swedish grandfather worked with his big square hands and his heart. He built the house my mother grew up in, and he enjoyed creating Christmas tree ornaments and other things. He loved to write and tell stories, and taught me to love and respect the printed word. He was a kindred spirit to me if there ever was one. Many of the time-worn tools pictured here were his. I made this illustration in his honor.
